Alasdair Allan hails from near Selkirk in the Borders. He graduated with an MA (Hons) in Scottish Language and Literature from Glasgow and a PhD in Scots Language from Aberdeen.
Dr Allan was elected as the MSP for The Western Isles in 2007.

Angus is a native Gaelic speaker from Barra. He was in School in Barra and the Nicholson Institute in Stornoway.
He has represented the Constituency in Westminster since 2005.
